Escape Room 101

i keep hearing about escape rooms on tv and from friends, but, i'm still confused. what is this?

No worries, it sounds a little crazy at first, but it's actually very simple. You and your friends will have exactly 60 minutes to try and "escape" the room. You'll have to find clues and solve puzzles in order to escape. That's it. Simple, right?

...

Still confused? How about this. Did you see that Nicholas Cage movie, National Treasure? Remember how he kept finding clues and putting everything together? Or, what about The Da Vinci Code? Did you see that? Blues Clues? What about that show with Benedict Cumberbatch???

An escape room is sort of like that.

THE MAIN CHARACTERS IN THOSE MOVIES are REALLY SMART. ARE ESCAPE ROOMS THAT HARD?

No, they won't be that hard, but, they are definitely challenging. The success rates for our rooms range from 20% to 40%.

WHAT IF I CAN'T FIGURE OUT THE FIRST PUZZLE AND GET STUCK FOR the entire HOUR on one puzzle?

That won't happen. Just ask for a hint. Easy, right?

are you really going to lock me in a room?

No, that's a myth. Escape rooms don't literally lock you in a room. The door you are trying to open is locked, but the door you entered through is always unlocked.

who plays escape rooms?

Locals, people visiting Columbia, work groups, church groups, college students, couples... the list goes on and on...

this sounds like it requires a lot of teamwork. is this good for team building?

Yes, in fact, we have corporate team building groups at The Final Door all the time. Companies such as Wal-Mart, Verizon, JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, and more have used The Final Door for team building. We also get many groups from Ft Jackson.

what about kids? is this good for families?

Escape rooms are great for families! In fact, we currently have a seasonal room called Grinched. This room is here for a limited time only and is designed specifically for families and kids.

If you've already played Grinched and want to play a different room with your family, there are a few things families should know:

  1. First, if you are bringing children under the age of 15, you need to book over the phone or book a private event.
  2. Second, children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by at least one adult.
  3. Finally, some rooms are darker themed than others. The Vampyr is very family friendly. Blackout and The Sacrifice have darker themes. A good rule of thumb is this:
  • If your child CAN watch scary movies, they will be good with any room.
  • If your child DOES NOT watch scary movies, book The Vampyr.

is this a haunted house?

No, The Final Door is not a haunted house. We have some darker themed rooms, and some rooms (specifically, Blackout) can be described as scary, but, no, we are not a haunted house. If you're really nervous, book The Vampyr, it's not scary at all.

what about this bar i keep hearing about? will you really hide beer and wine in the room?

Yes, we are the only escape room in South Carolina that has a beer and wine lobby. Show up early for a little pre-gaming. We have a great beer and wine selection, with a little bit of everything.

And, yes, we will hide beer and wine in the room. Bring your ID and show up at least 15 minutes early to get your order in.

okay, you have me convinced. how much does this cost?

$25 per person on Monday through Thursday.

$28 per person on Friday through Sunday.

HOW DO I BOOK? CAN i JUST SHOW UP?

You need to reserve your spot in advance. If you just show up, we may not have a game available, so, at minimum, you should call before you leave.

When you are ready to book, you can call or click any BOOK NOW button (like the one below) and follow the prompts.

okay, but how far in advance should i book?

If you want to come on a Friday or Saturday, I advise you book easy soon as possible. We are often turning customers away on the weekend.

WHEN ARE YOU OPEN?

We are open every day.  Click the button below to see our availability in real time.

I WANT TO COME EARLY IN THE MORNING AND i DON'T SEE ANYthing available BEFORE NOON

As long as you have a group of 6 or more, we will be happy to open early for you. Give us a call and we'll work it all out for you.

how many people do i need to PLAY?

You can play with as few as 2 people and as many as 8 people. If you have more than 8 people, you can book multiple games.

You seem pretty cool so I'll give you an insider's tip. Groups of four or more are much more likely to escape than 2 person groups. If you can, try to get at least one more couple to play with you.

okay, i only booked 4 of the 8 spots. will people i don't know book the other 4 spots?

Someone else may book the remaining spots. Don't worry, people who like escape rooms tend to be very fun and cool. It's a great way to make new friends, and honestly, can you ever have too many friends?

my mom taught me to be scared of strangers. can i play with only my group?

I see how you are. We've got a VIP on our site today. Okay Mr(s) VIP, what you need to do is this; find a time with all the spots available and click the "private" booking option. You will be paying for the empty spots in addition to your tickets.

I BOOKED, BUT, WHAT IF MY FLAKY FRIEND DOESN'T SHOW UP?

We have a very strict no cancellation policy. Make your flaky friend purchase their own ticket(s) so you don't get stuck with the bill.

We also have a Cancellation Protection you can purchase when checking out. It's $3 per person. This will allow you to cancel or change your booking 48 or more hours prior to your reservation. Better safe than sorry, right?

what should i wear? should i bring anything?

Dress comfortably and be ready for an adventure.  All you need is your brain... and reading glasses for some of you wiser ones.

how early should i arrive? how long will i be there?

Be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes early. Just like at the movie theater, the game starts with or without you.

Plan on being here at least an hour and a half.

i still have questions

Give us a call. We've heard them all and will be happy to answer all your questions. (803) 602-2433
